Adwords Pay Per Call Verification Update + Quality Score Tips

How are you? How is the pay per calling?

I’ll make this brief:

Adwords Pay Per Call Verification Update

Adwords is requiring verification of all phone numbers used with call extensions – as of June 2015.

Yet, with direct mobile click-2-call, a landing page is still irrelevant to quality score, but now required.

Before

The strategy I’ve used for 2 years was to find a slightly related domain on Google, and use that as a domain.

Calls would always go to your phone number, and avoid the landing page altogether.

This would save time on building a landing page, AND give you a slight boost in Quality score.

Now

The latest Call-only ads from Adwords introduced phone number verification.

Simply put, you just need to have the phone number from your Call Extension visible somewhere on your website,

OR, simply place the Adwords Conversion script onto your website/landing page to verify your website. To see how to add your Adwords Conversion script to your landing page, check out the Adwords Pay Per Call Marketing 4.0 Guide here.

Quality Score

One COMMON question I get asked is about quality score. After years of experience and data, as well as, hours on the phone with Adwords specialists, your QUALITY SCORE FOR CALL-ONLY ADS works like this:

[CTR: Click-through Rate] x [Ad Title/Description Relevance] x Time

Click-through Rate (CTR)

To increase your CTR, increase your bid for a short duration to get some clicks on your ad. This will let adwords know your ad WILL be clicked by other users.

Ad Title/Description Relevance

Have your keyword in the ad. At least 1 or 2 times. When you search using Google, you will see the keyword you are looking for highlighted for visibility. This is what Adwords wants.

Time

Your account history is important, along with the history of your ads. Your Costs will decrease over time as you continue to get clicks.

Your Landing Page has little Relevance

Once again, for call-only ads, your landing page has little relevance to your quality score. If you are running desktop or tablet traffic to your landing page, then your LP will have more relevance, but the majority still comes from the above equation.

New Adwords Pay Per Call Policy Changes & Updates

Google Adwords is constantly adding, removing, and changing things. As such, let’s cover what’s important to us Pay Per Callers right here, right now.

1. Phone Number Verifications

I covered this in a previous Adwords Pay Per Call Marketing 4.0 Video, but basically you now need to verify your numbers. This consists of simply placing the number somewhere on your page where your domain address link goes OR verifying your domain with a script from the conversion section.

2. WAP Ads are OUT

No more WAP Ads as of June 2015. These were those simple click-2-call, no link ads on old pre-android/iphone/Windows phone, phones. While they were low volume traffic, they were always high return on investment. Nonetheless, say goodbye to them.

3. Call-Only Ads Are Now IN the Adwords Editor 11.1

We’ve been waiting for this since the introduction of call-only ads. Before, we couldn’t do the bulk-creation of adwords call-only ads, so we stuck to the typical 300% mobile bid ads. But now, this is a non-issue.

Hi my name is Clay,

Leonidas invited me to do a guest post on his blog as I’ve been going pretty hard with PPCall for the last year, been making good money, and have some interesting things to share.

I’ll be doing a webinar on Bing Ads for PPCall with RingPartner on April 2nd, so you’ll definitely want to check that out as well – its free and I’ll be giving away some secrets I’ve used to pull in over 20k revenue from BING ADS exclusively in just the last two months.

As Leonidas comprehensively covers the technical aspects of PPcall in both his free and premium content, I wanted to take a step back and discuss the overarching principles of success specific to PPcall Affiliate marketing.   I’m going to share three specifically today starting with:

Principle of Success #1 – Consciousness & Competence

Consciousness vs. Competence

The first principle I want to talk about is the consciousness competence matrix that nearly every affiliate will grow through.

I was recently helping a beginner affiliate on skype and he said, “Clay I’ve done everything correct but I’m not getting any calls go through.  I KNOW I’ve set everything up right as well”

Being around the PPC block I know how easy it is to make campaign level errors – you’ll get to a point where you check and double check everything you do out of habit.  He shared his desktop screen and let me take a look into his Adwords campaigns.

Within 3 minutes I was able to diagnose glaring Quality Score issues, and mistakes made in his campaign level call extensions (He forgot to click the box that restricts clicks through to a website, tsk tsk)

This is a demonstration of unconscious incompetence – the beginner affiliate was unaware of his errors, and how could he be?  He hasn’t gone through the trial and error needed to develop a deep understanding of what’s going on.  Neils Bohr, famous physicist said:

“An expert is merely a man who has made every possible mistake within a narrow field”

That’s us in PPCall and that’s what you need to do.  Fail as fast as you can by taking massive action and advance to a level of mastery quickly.

You need to reach the level of unconscious competence where you’re setting up campaigns lightning fast, making few to zero errors, and almost always driving traffic at a low cost.  It’s an accumulation of all the mini-skills you’ve internalized and built along the way.

Principle of Success #2 – Achieving Understanding

Famous Quote from Isaac Imanov on Scientific Discovery,

‘The most exciting phrase to hear in Science, the only one that heralds new discoveries, is not “Eureka!”, but rather, “Hmm… that’s funny…”

I’d like to change that too,

‘The most exciting phrase to hear in PPC MARKETING, the only one that heralds new discoveries, is not “Eureka!”, but rather, “Hmm… that’s funny…”

And that’s what you’ll observe. 

Most PPCall affiliates keep their secrets close to chest and because of that you’ll find many of your most insightful discovers were not hypothesized and acted out – but retrospectively stumbled upon by accident.  So cherish those discoveries and keep a close eye out as you work on your campaigns.

Principle of Success #3 – KW methodology

Finally I want to discuss your approach to new offers and what separates a beginner from an intermediate from an advanced affiliate.  Another metaphor and quote:

“Give a man a fish feed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.”

Now in this context a fish = a keyword

A beginner who sees early success by finding some profitable KW’s will be unlikely to repeat that success soon after.  The beginner moves slowly and inefficiently – testing only a few KW’s against a few offers.

You don’t ever reach the intermediate level until you take a step back and look at your process for actually finding KW’s systematically.  This is when you start to develop a process for finding KW’s and you find yourself testing more KW’s against more offers, striking success with some consistency.

Then there’s what separates the intermediate affiliate from the advanced affiliate.  Metaphorically it would look something like this:

“Give a man a commercial fishboat, use a net, and find all the fish in the ocean.”  Fish being Keywords, of course :)

The top affiliates systematically test hundreds of thousands of keywords against a revolving slew of new offers.  They are the super affiliates and if you want to crush it, this is what you need to be doing.  At this stage you’re skill level is high and you rely on external tools to help you manage massive list of KW’s and increase the productivity of your process.  You use excel to organize lists and templates and tools to speed up your efforts.

Final Insights

I want to make one last comment.

Give it 6 months.

PPCall is fascinating as you literally witness the compounding effects of your skill.  That’s why you need to give it time – and effort.  Almost every successful affiliates lifetime earnings graph follows the same exponential growth pattern.  Just stick to it until you can smash through the exponential tipping point.

How To Steal Unlimited Keywords

Compared to KeywordSpy/SEMRush and those other ones, Spyfu lets you literally scrape as many keywords as you want per day. KeywordSpy/SEMRush have limits/day.

You can dig REALLY deep into a niche, and come back with MILLIONS of keywords.

Notes:

When naming your campaigns, append ‘ – domain – organic/paid’ to the end of it, for better organization.

Also, remember to use my Keyword & Adgroup strategy when creating your campaigns. 

This will allow you to track conversions properly for HUGE lists of keywords.

Finally, I recommend you remove duplicate keywords, using the Adwords editor, or Excel.

Once again, for call-only ads, your landing page has little relevance to your quality score. If you are running desktop or tablet traffic to your landing page, then your LP will have more relevance, but the majority still comes from the above equation.

New Adwords Pay Per Call Policy Changes & Updates

Google Adwords is constantly adding, removing, and changing things. As such, let’s cover what’s important to us Pay Per Callers right here, right now.

1. Phone Number Verifications

I covered this in a previous Adwords Pay Per Call Marketing 4.0 Video, but basically you now need to verify your numbers. This consists of simply placing the number somewhere on your page where your domain address link goes OR verifying your domain with a script from the conversion section.

2. WAP Ads are OUT

No more WAP Ads as of June 2015. These were those simple click-2-call, no link ads on old pre-android/iphone/Windows phone, phones. While they were low volume traffic, they were always high return on investment. Nonetheless, say goodbye to them.

3. Call-Only Ads Are Now IN the Adwords Editor 11.1

We’ve been waiting for this since the introduction of call-only ads. Before, we couldn’t do the bulk-creation of adwords call-only ads, so we stuck to the typical 300% mobile bid ads. But now, this is a non-issue.

The website itself is hosted on Google servers & is optimized further by Cloudflare, which is a service that makes a copy of your site all over the world, while adding additional protections!

You will be protecting any communication To AND From your server by installing an EASY TO INSTALL SSL Certificate.

Cloudflare will add another level of protection by preventing SPAM BOTS from countries to spam and try to hack your server.

Since your website is WordPress based, you can add EVEN MORE security with various plugins once it's up and running.

 

Your Website Is EASY To Setup & Scalable

I've tried many different hosting providers, and even created my own cloud-based servers using Amazon & Microsoft Azure (for the nerds).

Cloudways (the server I recommend in this video) is honestly the way to go, with everything being a simple 1-click away.

In addition, you can ADD more website VERY VERY easily (2 clicks), AND increase the power of your server, with 2 additional clicks. As well, you can decrease the power, when you don't need as much.
